Buildings and Grounds
Mission:
We manage and upkeep the buildings and grounds in the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas.  We aim to meet the needs of the diverse departments and residents. Our ideals are safety, frugality, self-reliance and sustainability.  The work is done in a spirit of continuing the Buddhist cultivation, so that work is done in an environmentally friendly, non-harming, and mindful manner.

Building and Grounds Volunteer

Dharma Realm Buddhist Young Adults - Website
The Dharma Realm Buddhist Young Adults (DRBY) consists of college students and young adults who are interested in applying Buddhist principles to their daily lives. DRBY is a community of young people who are searching for wisdom and are committed to helping others while advancing on their own spiritual path. This community provides support for each other's spiritual cultivation and inquiry into life's deeper meaning in a friendly and open atmosphere. [most work can be done remotely.]

DRBY has a repository of Dharma talks and discussions from conferences, ongoing classes, retreats, and other special events. These audio files would be very useful to share with the world, particularly if they were converted from an audio file into edited text. Transcribing is highly recommended way to enter and access the Dharma. Job: Transcribe audio files. Requirements: English, your own computer; we recommend an audio headset. We can provide transcription software.

Elementary & Secondary Schools: Boys - Website
Mission:
Our Buddhist schools, in partnership with parents, work to instill and develop in our students the core virtues of kindness, filial piety, respect, trustworthiness, fairness, citizenship, integrity and humility. We provide an environment for our students to achieve their full academic potential and become outstanding citizens who will contribute to making our world a better place.

Elementary School Teacher

  • Teach reading, language arts, math, science/social studies, and possibly art/PE/Chinese/Meditation/Virtue Studies to a class of K-6 boys of diverse backgrounds.
  • Qualification: teaching experience, teacher training, preferably credentialed or working towards credential, good health and lots of energy.

  • Teaching advanced science to high school boys. There is mainly a need for an AP Physics B&C teacher.

  • Duties include:
  • Supporting, counseling, and supervising girls ages 12-19 in the dorm at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas. This is a great chance to make a difference in the lives of the students going to IGDVS.
  • Qualification: Teaching or/and parenting experiences helpful. Loves teenagers.

  • Teach basic conversational and written English to students whose native language is not English, as well as Sheltered courses in Science, History for English language learners.
  • Requirements: Training in teaching ESL preferred.

  • Promote student success and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for all students.

Librarian

  • Duties include:
  • Finishing computerizing the library catalog.
  • Maintaining the computerized library catalog.
  • Loaning books to teachers and students.
  • In cooperation with teachers, designing book display introducing books relevant to students’ course materials.
  • In cooperation with teachers, upgrade the library.
  • In cooperation with teachers, supervise students doing research on line.
  • In cooperation with teachers, adopt computer-based learning.
  • Qualification: Some experience with working in or using libraries, loves books, good interpersonal skills, computer literacy.

Math Teachers/Tutors

  • Teach or tutor students in Algebra I, II, Geometry, etc.
  • Requirements: Degree in Math or Science preferred but not required.

PE Teachers

  • High School: teaching junior high and high school girls fitness, health and sportsmanship through team sports and fitness activities. Qualification: Experience in teaching or playing a team sport or doing fitness programs.
  • Elementary School: Teaching K-6 girls. Qualification: Experience in working with elementary students, experience in teaching or playing a team sport or doing fitness programs.

Natural Organic Farm - Website
Mission:
1. To offer a place to do mindful work.
2. To promote farming practices that cherishes the planet and all life.
3. To provide natural organic food to sustain our community.
4. To educate people on how to adopt a healthy lifestyle for themselves and the planet.
